Bulky Knit Hat

The weather is surprisingly chilly this time of year and nothing feels as good as wrapping up in a handmade garment. This knit hat is made with bulky yarn called Impeccable by Loops and Threads and is made with large needles so it can be created within hours of the first snow fall.

This free knitting pattern is great for beginners. Make a few for your family or challenge yourself to donate 30 hats this season to a local shelter or underprivileged school.

Bulky Knit Hat Pattern:

Pattern sizes are written as follows: Baby (Toddler, Child, Teen, Adult) and increase and decrease by six stitches.
Cast on: 42 (48, 54, 60, 66) and join into a round.
Brim: Rib stitch 1:1 until brim measure 1(2,2,2.5,2.5) from cast on edge.
Body of Hat: At the beginning of your round stockinette stitch as many rows as it takes for the hat to measure 4(5, 6, 7, 7.5).

Decrease Rows:

Row 1- knit around
Row 2- *knit 5 (6,7,8,9) k2tog*, a total of 6 times
Row 3- knit around
Row 4- *Knit 4 (5,6,7,8) k2tog*, a total of 6 times
Row 5- knit around
Row 6- *Knit 3 (4,5,6,7) k2tog*, a total of 6 times
Continue above pattern until you have 6 stitches on your needles. Every row will decrease 6 stitches at this point so the next row will be *knit 2 (3,4,5,6) k2tog* a total of 6 times. When you get to six stitches get a darning needle and transfer the stitches purl wise onto the needle. Pull the yarn through. Weave in your ends and add a pompom. You did it!
